Pottery! Using Clay in the Classroom to Enhance Wellbeing and the Curriculum

Pottery! Using Clay in the Classroom to Enhance Wellbeing and the Curriculum

**PLEASE NOTE THIS SUMMER COURSE RUNS FROM TUESDAY 1ST JULY TO SATURDAY 5TH JULY**

This course is designed for primary school teachers who want to enhance their teaching of the curriculum and improve the wellbeing of their students through pottery and clay work. The course offers a variety of aims and objectives for participants to achieve.

Through the course, teachers will learn about the importance of local heritage of Co. Kilkenny and how to incorporate it into the curriculum. They will also gain confidence in teaching art, specifically clay and ceramics, and managing their class while working with clay. This will allow them to focus on the preparation and delivery of new material in their classroom.

Additionally, participants will develop a general approach to teaching and learning about art that recognises and utilises children's innate curiosity and creativity. The course also emphasises the use of assessment for learning and assessment of learning techniques, as well as the use of ICT to enhance students' learning experiences.

Clay is a versatile medium that allows for free imaginative expression, making it an ideal tool for learning about form and three-dimensional expression. By incorporating pottery and sculpture, students will have the opportunity to handle and touch the art, promoting a deeper understanding and appreciation of the inherent qualities in art works.
