University College Cork Diploma in Autism Studies

University College Cork has developed a two-year part-time Diploma in Autism Studies course (Level 7), which is being delivered in Kilkenny Education Centre. Up to this year, the course took place every Wednesday evening from 5.30 – 9.30p.m. It is hoped the course will run again next year from mid- September 2020 to mid-April 2021. However, this will be dependent on Government directives in relation to the current COVID-19 restrictions.

The course is designed to introduce the different ways in which people on the Autism Spectrum (ASD) experience the world. Participants will learn about the history of Autism and the different strengths, challenges and conceptualisations. Mental health and wellbeing will be examined, along with the various supports and interventions that are available for people on the Spectrum across their lifespan and the legislation and policies that govern best practice guidelines and models of service. The issue of mental health and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) will be explored also and participants will also explore how a person with ASD may contribute positively to society.

This course is ideally suited to any person that is interested in expanding their own knowledge and understanding of the Autism Spectrum Disorder. Its comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the Disorder by professionals working in the field of Autism would be hugely beneficial to any person living with, or working with, a person with Autism.

So, whether you are a parent, sibling, teacher, SNA, working in a social care setting, or a professional looking to improve your knowledge, this course is for you!
