Magnifier in Windows
The Magnifier is intended for visually impaired people to use when running Microsoft Windows. It allows you to enlarge your screen to make text, apps and documents bigger. This is a built-in feature of Windows and is free to use. It has three options and can magnify the screen up to nine times its normal size. You can use the invert colour feature which allows you to change the colour of the screen. You can also change how the mouse pointer and cursor work to suit the needs of the student. The screen and allow you to change the curser size etc. As you can see, the Magnifier, while intended for the visually impared, is also suitable for students with Learning Difficulties.
Seeing AI - Seeing AI is an artificial intelligence application developed by Microsoft for iOS. Seeing AI uses the device camera to identify people and objects, and then the app audibly describes those objects for people with visual impairment. Between reading documents, describing colours, scenery and people, AI is a wonderful tool that helps vision impaired people not just inside the classroom, but also in their day-to-day living.
Non Visual Desktop Access uses Windows’ operating system. It allows you to email, shop, navigate social media, and operate many applications including music players and Microsoft programs. You can use a braille display along with the speech synthesizer which is available in numerous languages. More importantly, you can download NVDA onto a USB drive and take it wherever you go.
This webinar is suitable for Primary and Post Primary teachers, SNAs and parents. There will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the webinar.
