Evidence Based Approaches to Special Educational Needs: Inclusion in Practice

This Summer Course is based around the topic of Inclusion in Practice. All class groups, from Junior Infants to Sixth Class, will be accommodated for, as the theme is applicable to all classes and Learning Support contexts. The theme of this course is to address the inclusion of children with various Special Educational Needs (SEN), including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Specific Learning Disorders, General Learning Difficulties, ADHD and Emotional Behavioural Difficulties, in the mainstream setting. 

The course is delivered through PowerPoint lectures, workshops, collaborative group work, videos and presentations. The aim of this course is to improve the quality of teaching by increasing competency in catering for those with SEN in the classroom, by developing the ability to screen and assess children in the mainstream setting and use this information to inform school self-evaluation, and to increase familiarly with evidence-based strategies and interventions to enhance the teaching and learning of children with SEN. Participants will be asked to work collaboratively with one another in creating resources for children with SEN.
