Mental Health Awareness Initiative (MHAI) for Post Primary School Teachers
Are you a Post Primary school teacher?
Are you interested in your students' mental health?
If so, this workshop is for you!
The Mental Health Awareness Initiative is a nationwide initiative to raise awareness among Post Primary school teachers about student mental health and to highlight how teachers can play an active role as ‘One Good Adult’ in the lives of students. This workshop offers Post Primary school teachers an opportunity to learn how to promote and support mental health and wellbeing within the classroom whether you are a Business, Science or Maths teacher. This workshop is for all school staff. The initiative is being led by the Association of Teacher Education Centres in Ireland (ATECI) in collaboration with Jigsaw, the National Centre for Youth Mental Health.
This workshop aims to increase teachers' knowledge and awareness of the following:
- How you can play an active part in supporting and promoting mental health and wellbeing in school,
- Why developing good relationships in the classroom and throughout the school is essential for students’ wellbeing,
- Why teacher self-care is fundamental for you to support students mental health and wellbeing, and
- How to implement the REAL approach in the classroom which can support and promote the mental health needs of students (Recognise, Encourage, Actively Listen, Let Someone Know).
